Roots In Motion: A Juneteenth Celebration In Movement, History and Community
Roots in Motion is a 90 minute experiential workshop that explores the African roots of Afro Latin dance as a living history of resilience, healing, and connection. Through storytelling, rhythm, and simple, accessible dance steps, participants learn how movement has been used to communicate, heal, and build community across the African diaspora. No dance experience is required—just a willingness to move, reflect, and reconnect with the wisdom held in the body.
The workshop will include a short dance sequence that is optional for participants to be filmed and posted on social media as a means of sharing what was learned and the experience.
Dance steps will be taught for solo dancing so no partner is needed. Dinner is included!!
Participants will:
- Understand the African roots of Afro Latin dance
- Experience dance as embodied storytelling and healing
- Learn simple Afro Latin movement patterns
- Feel greater connection to self, rhythm, and community
