A unique blend of history, dance, and culture this workshop will conclude with a short performance by the attendees. We will focus on Bachata, Salsa, and Kizomba using the Ghanian principle of Sankofa, "taking from the past what is good & bringing it into the future."

About The Event

A unique blend of history, dance, and culture this workshop will conclude with a short performance by the attendees. We will focus on Bachata, Salsa, and Kizomba using the Ghanian principle of Sankofa, "taking from the past what is good & bringing it into the future."

There will be food and drinks provided during the studio workshop. Comfortable attire and shoes should be worn. Some dancing maybe in bare feet. People are encouraged to use the breaks for stretching, eating, and dancing as music will be played.

 - Dance and Music rooted in culture and lived experience

 - History

 - Interactive dance component in context of lived experience.

- Significance of the drum with Bhakti Hough

3:00 Break

3:15 Adalia to teach short, 30sec choreographies

  - African Movement, Son/Cuban Rumba, Merengue, Konpa, 

    Bachata, Salsa, Kizomba

 - Although everyone will learn the choreographies, everyone will not 

    have to perform every dance

4:15 Break

4:30 Practice choreographies and flow of performance

5:15 Break to Prepare for Performance

ABOUT PROFESSOR ADALIA

* Over 20 years experience as an Educator

* 15 years of dance instructor experience

* 6 years teaching public speaking and African Disasporic courses at Francis Marion University

* Created and taught university courses on the History of Afro Latin Dance

* Holds a Masters in Teaching

* Holds a BA in History

* Professional Training/Certifications in

 Latin Dance- 2007 Son, Na-ri  |   2017 Edie "The Salsa Freak"

* Professional Training/Certifications in Dominican Bachata- 2018 Alex and Desiree 

* Professional Training/Certifications in Kizomba
